Professor Dr Nandu KS Thalange

Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist

Dr Nandu Thalange graduated from King’s College London in 1988 and has dedicated his career to advancing the field of paediatric endocrinology. He began with a research fellowship in Manchester from 1993 to 1996, where he published extensively in high-impact journals on childhood growth and development. After completing clinical training in endocrinology, he was appointed Consultant at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital in 2002. Over the next 15 years, he established and expanded the paediatric endocrinology service, developed a thriving clinical research unit, and led multiple national and multinational studies.

He served as Chief Investigator for two landmark global trials with Novo Nordisk, which supported the worldwide approval of Levemir (2010) and Tresiba (2015), both of which transformed diabetes care for children.

In 2017, Dr Thalange relocated to Dubai to establish the paediatric endocrine service at Al Jalila Children’s Hospital, the UAE’s first dedicated children’s hospital. Under his leadership, the service has become one of the most respected in the region. He introduced a range of clinical innovations including AI-assisted bone age analysis, novel dynamic testing protocols, advanced genetic diagnostics, and cutting-edge therapies for diabetes, rare bone diseases, lipid disorders, and obesity. He also launched the hospital’s paediatric endocrinology fellowship in 2023, graduating the first cohort of regional specialists the same year.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Thalange remains committed to education and academic development. He joined Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences in 2019 as Adjunct Professor of Paediatrics and was promoted to full Professor in 2023. A respected speaker and mentor, he continues to share his expertise across the UAE, the Gulf region, and internationally.

His clinical expertise covers the full spectrum of paediatric endocrine conditions, including growth and puberty, thyroid and adrenal disorders, paediatric diabetes, lipid conditions, obesity, endocrine genetics, and the endocrine effects of childhood cancer.

Dr Thalange’s work continues to impact countless lives through his dedication to clinical care, education, and research. He remains deeply committed to improving health outcomes for children and families worldwide.
